Resin brake pads are quieter than metal pads but offer slightly lower performance and wear more quickly. Metal pads have a longer service life than pads made of synthetic resin, are more fade-resistant, and offer consistent deceleration in dry and wet conditions. Metal brake pads may generate noise during braking.

Ice Technologies | In order to keep the braking power at longer continuous operation consistently high, Shimano has developed the Ice-Tech cooling technology for brake discs and brake pads. Brake pads with Ice Technologies feature cooling fins made of aluminum, which better dissipate heat. In conjunction with the optimized radiation properties of the rotor, this results in a longer durability of the pads, while brake noise and fading are minimized.
