The 2026 Tour de France runs from 4 to 26 July, right through the hottest weeks of our year. Tour de Wellfit is how we ride it with you: indoors, out of the heat, from the opening sprint in Barcelona to the final stage in Paris.
Here is the question every road rider in the UAE asks around now. How do you stay sharp, hold your fitness, and actually enjoy the Tour, when the tarmac at Al Qudra is an oven by eight in the morning? You can be up before sunrise for a short loop. You can also do the smart thing the pros do in a heatwave, and take the hard efforts indoors, where the watts are honest and the air conditioning is real. That is the whole idea behind Tour de Wellfit.
What is Tour de Wellfit?
Every July we team up with Wellfit for an indoor cycling challenge that runs across their clubs while the Tour is on. We supply the cycling side of it. They supply the studios, the bikes, and the energy of a room full of people chasing the same effort. It is the closest thing to riding a Grand Tour that most of us will ever get, and you do it ten minutes from home.
If you do not know WellFit yet, it is part of the Formative group and one of the largest fitness names in the country, with more than 20,000 members and clubs in Jumeirah Village Circle, Meydan, Dubai Marina, Sport Society in Mirdif, and Aljada in Sharjah. The challenge takes place in their spin studios, so you get a proper bike, a screen, and a coach pushing the room through each stage.
Four Weeks, four stages
The format mirrors the race. Four stages, each one built around a different demand the Tour makes of a rider.
- Stage 1, Sprints. A speed challenge. Short, sharp, full gas, the bunch finishes where seconds decide everything.
- Stage 2, King of the Hills. A climbing challenge. Long, sustained efforts on the steep gradients, the work the mountains demand.
- Stage 3, Time Trial. The race of truth. You against the clock and your own pacing, the discipline that quietly wins Tours.
- Stage 4, Tour Finale. The grand finish. Everything you have built across the first three stages, in one last test.
The grand prize is real motivation. This year, two Scott Speedster Gravel 20 bikes from Wolfi's are up for grabs, one for the top male rider and one for the top female. Ride all four stages well and a do-everything gravel bike could be yours by the time the peloton reaches Paris.
One thing to sort first. You need to be a WellFit member to join the challenge, and members get exclusive offers through the Wellfit loyalty app. Class times and the full qualifying rules live on the app too. In past editions you had to ride at least one class in every stage to stay eligible, so the safe move is not to skip a week.
Why indoor training is the real thing, not the backup
There is an old idea that indoor riding is what you settle for. That has not been true for years. A good smart trainer holds a power target more precisely than any road, simulates the gradient of a climb, and lets you ride a structured session without a single car, roundabout, or red light getting in the way. For sprint repeats and threshold work, the trainer is arguably better than the road, because nothing interrupts the effort.
If you are going to take the four stages seriously, the trainer under you matters. The Wahoo KICKR V6 is where most riders start.
